Engineered Pollution-Fighting Plants

Salk Institute of Biological Studies are in the process of researching how to reduce global warming using plants.

During photosynthesis plants absorb CO2 from the atmosphere during photosynthesis, by increasing the amount of suberin a plant produces, scientists hope to extract more carbon from the atmosphere and make plants more resistant to extreme weather conditions.

Harnessing Plant Initiative (HPI)

The Ray | West Point Georgia

The Ray is a"regenerative highway ecosystem" with solar panels that feed power into roadside EV charging stations. The resilient highway model that will run through a pollinator garden and small, sustainable farms filled with crops that mitigate the effects of global warming.

What happens to our old phones and laptops (e-Trash)?

Let's think about why we always want the newest and more advanced technology.  Ask yourself do we really need to upgrade every time a new version is released?

What's A Green Burial?

Death as in life has a large and lasting impact on the environment. Cremation, for example creates more than 6.8 million tons of carbon emissions each year,  Caskets have a long biodegrade and burial leads to methane emission (the second most prevalent greenhouse gas). But environmentally-friendly burial options are becoming more prevalent. Wicker and cardboard coffins can replace traditional wood, and dry ice is used rather than formaldehyde. And green burial services are popping up around the globe to curb post-mortem emissions.

Bike Share

Bike share programs are working all over the world in cities like Paris (16,000 bikes), London (8,000), and Hangzhou, China (65,000).. Many other cities (like New York, Portland, Seattle, Detroit, Chicago, and Los Angeles) have programs in the works.

Plastic Logic | ePaper

Plastic logic and/or epaper is a flexible display that looks similar to paper but you can use it again and again. It contains tiny microcapsules filled with particles that carry electric charges. The microcapsule have particles associated with positve or negative charges. The black and white charged particles surface and create different patterns.

Bioremediation

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has used bioremediation to clean up contaminated sites.  Bioremediation uses microbes and plants to clean up nitrates in contaminated water.  Microbes use plants to absorb the arsenic from contaminated soil in a process called, phytoremediation.
